Unfortunate Jessica Simpson is to call sick after suffering from a kidney infection, a Columbia Records spokeswoman said. Simpson issued a statement saying she "can't wait until the doctor says it's OK for me to get back out there" and thanked people for their get-well wishes.

Reportedly from CNN, Jessica Simpson will get her own TV series. Jessica Simpson has been linked with ABC for a comedy series due for fall 2004, which will be produced by Ted Harbert and Jessica's father Joe Simpson.

"Jessica has infectious energy and unmistakable star quality," ABC entertainment president Susan Lyne said. "She also has a built-in fan base in both music and television, which is a great jumping-off point for us. We're looking forward to developing the ideal showcase for her considerable talents."

Jessica Simpson will perform her new single "Sweetest Sin" from her recently-released album In This Skin on the 2003 Miss Teen USA pageant Tuesday (August 12). Her husband, singer Nick Lachey, is one of the judges. Similar to the Osbournes, husband-and-wife pop singers Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson are letting MTV cameras record their first year of marriage.

The series titled Newlyweds is scheduled to premiere at 10:30 p.m. EDT Aug. 19, the cable channel announced Thursday.

"A lot of people are going to be able to see we're just normal people, normal newlyweds living a new kind of life together," said Lachey, a member of the boy band 98 Degrees.

Lachey, 29, and Simpson, 23, married in October.

Lachey married his longtime girlfriend, singer Jessica Simpson, in October. The couple sang the ballad 'Where You Are' together for Simpson's 1999 debut album, Sweet Kisses, and the soundtrack to the movie Here On Earth. Lachey said that it was unlikely that he would reunite with his wife for a duet on his upcoming solo debut. 'We've done that one project together, and that one song together, and we really enjoyed that,' Lachey said. 'We enjoyed that whole experience, and I'm sure we will at some point. I don't think it will happen on this record. You know, I need to have a chance to establish myself as a solo artist, and she has got many things she needs to do on the solo front. At some point when the time is right and the song is right, I'm sure we'll do a project together.' Simpson tells us that she's not sure if she'll be back for future episodes after her next and last appearance on the show, but anything is possible. 'I don't know if I'm returning on That '70s Show,' Simpson said. 'Me and Ashton broke up, so I don't know if they'll have her come back, but I signed on for three episodes. I just wanted to do it for fun and, you know, to work with the cast, and to learn the ropes and stuff.' While they're teen idols, Jessica and Nick — who are 22 and 29, respectively — aren't teens themselves. They seem pretty earnest about setting a good example for their younger fans. 'If anything,' Nick says, 'I'd hope our relationship just offers an example of what a good relationship and real love can be like. I certainly wouldn't want anyone to do what we do just because we did it. If it feels right to be married at whatever age, that's a good step to take. You just have to make sure it's the right thing to do. I don't think our fans are going to run out and get married at 18 just because of us!' 'I love being a role model,' Jessica adds, 'and Nick has a great heart, and I know people look up to him, too. The budding actress — who last year did Dana Carvey's blink-and-ya-missed-it Master of Disguise — also plans a big-screen romantic comedy in 2003, but she's keeping mum on details.

Singer Jessica Simpson sobbed tears of joy as she wed 98 Degrees star Nick Lachey on Saturday, October 26, 2002. The singer got engaged to the boyband star, 28, last year after they reunited near the September 11th atrocities after a six month separation. Twenty-two year old Jessica entered the Austin, Texas chapel under an umbrella after torrential rain threatened to ruin the couple's big day. One guest says, 'The weather has been bad all week but she was determined it wouldn't spoil her day. 'There were tears in her eyes as she said, 'I do'.'

May 2, pop stars Celine Dion and Jessica Simpson and Country acts Lonestar and Clint Black will be in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to perform aboard America's newest aircraft carrier, the USS Harry S. Truman. The concert will kick off National Military Appreciation Month. CBS-TV will tape the show for a May 25 broadcast.
